Unfortunately, the photograph does not really help, I take it you are absolutely sure this is William White, because if it is, there are other issues?
I'd be interested to see the whole image, if possible?
I did note his daughter's name, no coincidence, I am sure, it was named after Pretorius himself and was the enemies capital.

Okay, well in that case, you have the issue of the medals, assuming the QSA and KSA in the photograph are correct, in all respects, the clasps, the rivets and the naming, then I would ask, who was the original owner, the recipient, because I do not see how it could have been William White.

That is very perplexing! ..In my genealogical research he's proving to be an enigma....and so it continues.
I may try and track down the relative who last had the medals to see if they can throw any light on matters, but Thank you for all your input, it's much appreciated

Six clasps on the QSA in the photograph, the roll shows only four and then there is the matter of the KSA and clasps, which was award for service in South Africa during the war itself, but, William White could not be entitled to that medal, if his statement of service in WO97 is correct, he left for Home Service on the 25th of November 1900 and did mot serve in South Africa in 1901 or 1902.
All that and then the photograph itself, a little strange, is it not, do you know when and why it was taken?
