I've just won a QSA with 5 clasps to the above chap along with his WWI trio and Death Penny. KIA in Basra

Is there any way to determine what RFA Battery he was with in the Boer War? He retained the number 900 throughout.

Regards

Rory

Very annoying for a medal collector when the roll entries let you down, but, to be quite honest, even if Arthur Honey had survived and his all important statement of service had survived too, this latter might not have been available to you, so you end up with very little to go on, but you know a little of his family so it is really a case of looking through other sources, published and unpublished, newspapers of the day, diaries and letters, at the NAM and the RA museum, a lot of work, which may well prove quite fruitless anyway.

Hello Rory

What medal roll is he on?

If the QSA & KSA just say "RFA" or "RHA" then in my experience he was not in a fighting battery but with remounts, ammunition column or park or perhaps RA Mounted Rifles.

To check on his WW1 service try the Library of the Royal Artillery at Woolwich - the librarian Paul Evans is super helpful.

Hi Meurig

He's on his own roll for the QSA and 5 clasps CC/OFS/TVL/SA 1901 & 1902 (See attached) then he appears on that "other" RFA roll (also attached). I wonder if the annotation 13F in the column has any relevance to his outfit?

Hello Rory

Have look at the signature for the roll - was "late cmdg" 11th MI.

That's the answer.

Thanks for the pointer Meurig.

Where can I find out more about the doings of the 11th M.I.?

I have checked this site as well as the ubiquitous google to no avail..

Regards

Rory
