Dear Forum

Help required again please.

I am looking for any information on an Alexander Hay who served with the 49th Montgomeryshire Imperial Yeomanry attached to the 9th Welsh Battalion. I have quite alot of paperwork to research. However I am interested in any information from his marriage to Kathleen Hare in June 1909 until his death in April 1925.

I have his military career more or less sorted. However, it is the above dates which are proving more tricky. Did he have children, what was his profession? Any help as always would be most welcomed and appreciated.

Alexander was born in India in 1872. He came from a very large family.
His father was Major General Woulfe Hay of the Madras Staff Corps.
His mother was Alida Maria, eldest daughter of Surgeon Major Henry William Porteous.

Best regards

Dave - this from the Hampshire Chronicle 3rd July 1909 might help:

I think they may have got the name of her father slightly incorrect and he was called Godden Styles Hare and this is a notice of his 1870 marriage from the Chelmsford Chronicle 26th August 1870.

Many thanks, you are bang on with Kathleen's father. It was Godden. Also, your snippet of info regarding Johannesburg has taken me to where he married, and I believe where his final resting place was located.

Cheers
