Hi all,
I am researching my GGF William Jefferson, can anyone help? It's an amazing story I'm sure; joined the ASC in 1889, served in Ireland, married in Dublin 1893, S Africa Nov 99 - Jul 02 I think as a Blacksmith (Cold Shoeing Course 1893) attached to the York's Regt, discharged to reserves Aug 02, joined the RFC Sept 1914 to Apr 1920, traded as a Blacksmith. I've got the outline but am struggling with the locations he served and clasps awarded in S Africa and WW1.
If anyone is able to assist in either a amateur or professional capacity I would be very grateful. I also have a GF who served in the MG Corps WW1 who I am also currently looking into.
Many thanks,
AllanG

Allan - welcome to the Forum.

Attached are four medal rolls on which your GGF is listed - found on Ancestry.

3 regarding his QSA which also show the 3 ASC companies he served in. Regarding his clasps look at the third one and you will see he was awarded six - Paaderberg, Dreifontein, Johannesburg, Diamond Hill, Wittebergen, Relief of Kimberley. I think those more expert than me would say that is a rather nice set and he definitely saw some real action. I have assumed the Cape Colony clasp signified on the other two medal rolls is crossed out and he did not receive it - but looking at your other post perhaps he did receive it although as pointed out that would have been against the rules - still rules are there to be broken.

His one KSA medal roll shows he received both the clasps - South Africa 1901 & South Africa 1902 - this is as expected considering his service dates.

I presume you have found his attestation papers and service records from the info you give.

Regards, David.

PS they are not attached because the system is telling me they are too big - don't know why because in my humble opinion they are not too big.

PPS Well one is! The KSA. Will be back shortly with the other three.

Here are the three QSA medal rolls. The second one is the significant one. Life can be hard work at times.
