...."We give a portrait of Trooper James Hogg, of Kitchener's Horse, who has died from wounds at Bloemfontein. Trooper Hogg had served about ten months with his regiment. He was an engineer by trade, and younger son of Mr. James Hogg, of Fertilehall, Reston, Berwickshire."

Interestingly, Palmer shows N/N Tpr. J.Hogg of Kitchener's Horse as "Died of Wounds Self Inflicted" at Bloemfontein 23/11/1900.
The nominal roll on this site shows his number as "4061". However, WO100/256 page 42 shows his number as "4001" and notes "Killed" 23/11/1900. His QSA clasp entitlement was Cape Colony, Johannesburg, Diamond Hill and Wittebergen.
