Hello Adrian,
I don't remember ever seeing anything like those in Natal in the 1970's, they all appear to have the St Edward crown on them, that one has the year 1984 on it.

The South African War Graves Board was absorbed into the National Monuments Council in 1982.

The Imperial Light Horse was the first unit to respond to the attack on the IY at Tweefontein and their abortive 'ride to the rescue' is covered in Gibson's 'The Story of the Imperial Light Horse'. It ends with this sentence:
"The cause of the unfortunate disaster appeared to be the neglect of the Yeomanry to take the ordinary and usual military precautions."
