Hello again Jack,
Joseph Butterworth spent his entire service in South Africa from the 18th of December 1900 to the 27th of February 1905, he transfered to the reserve the following day and there he remained until 1912, for his service during the Anglo Boer War he received the QSA/KSA pair.
A point of interest to note was that he had been serving with the militia in South Africa before joining his battery in the Orange River Colony as the OFS was called after the enemies capital had been taken.
Again his service papers have survived.
Regards again Frank

Joseph Butterworth did not serve in the regular army until he joined the RFA, he had served in their 3rd battalion only which was a Militia corps.
