He Collier-Gates was born in Scarborough in 1865. He qualified as a doctor but throughout his long life was constantly attracted by the military life, serving in many different capacities and in many parts of the world. He saw service as a trooper in the Mounties, as a Sergeant in the Bulawayo Field Force during the Matabele Rising, in Remington’s Scouts and late Lord Strathcona’s Horse during the Boer War, as well as serving as an army doctor in the Sudan and during the Relief of Pekin.
At the outbreak of the Great War, although now nearly 50 years old, he left medicine once again and joined the Royal Flying Corps where he trained as a pilot. Following the Great War he joined the Legion of Frontiersmen.
He died in 1951.
I was interested in the group because of the Wepener clasp but I don't think he is entitled to the clasp.
Otherwise it is quite a splendid group of awards.
