TOPIC:

I have seen a couple of catalogues this week containing medals to the FID. For the rank, both say 'Agent or Guide'. Is this because the medal was issued with no rank in some instances?

Most of the examples I have on the FID page of this site , give either Agent or Guide as possible ranks.

It seems that you could hold a commission and a CMG and still be entered as such on the Intelligence rolls!

I regret I cannot remember, but, I did see one man and was quite surprised, but we need to bare in mind that this was a large unit, some people still seem to think it was all cloak and dagger "al a" SOE but I am sure it was not!

Came to me today it was Alfred Fairlie Henderson, CMG was for Ladysmith.

Yes but he was Natal Guides rather than FID surely? And a survivor of Isandhlwana to boot.

The originator of the FID was Colonel David Henderson.
