Would anyone care to speculate on this curiosity. It is nicely made with a high silver content (not hallmarked) and engraved to the reverse with

South Africa
1900
Presented to
Pte R. G. Hansford
DCM
Devons

4288 Pte R G Hansford, Devonshire Regiment was indeed awarded the DCM for his part in the Defence of Ladysmith (LG 27/09/01) probably for Wagon Hill. Could this be a regimental award? If not, what??

A possibility. His papers suggest he was a fairly good soldier-promoted Lce-Corporal January 1900, Corporal January 02 and sergeant December 02. Served in India after the Boer War and discharged 1907 after completing 12 years.

As you suggest, it could a supplementary regimental award to recognise his DCM or an award he received after the DCM.

I have also seen a good shooting medal which was somewhat similar to this.
