One of the medals that worked its way into the collection this morning was a QSA DoL, Transvaal to 424 Tpr. S.E. Waugh, Natal Carbineers ("A" Squadron).

Waugh was one of the few casualties of one of the first skirmishes in the Boer War - that of End Hill on 3 November - the same action in which the much admired Major C.E. Taunton lost his life. (I have his sons QSA - died of Enteric).

Others that were wounded were: Corpl. W. McCullough and Troopers W. Anderson, C.E.J. Miller, A. Paine, R. Watts, and C.W. Webber.

Waugh went on to serve in the Natal Volunteer Composite Regiment.

Regards

Rory

Very nice medal Rory.

Most of the wounded you mention are not in the "official" NFF casualty rolls. While researching these and adding them to The Register I found another four names, from the Border Mounted Rifles, also wounded in this action also known as Lancer's Nek or Lancer's Hill. Three DCMs were awarded to the Natal Carbineers for rescuing a wounded comrade.
