Yesterday I just happened to be in the right place at the right time and more importantly was cashed up. I was in my friends coin and medal shop in Adelaide to do some wheeling and dealing(selling) and he was busy helping a customer with some rare Russian coin that had come out of a deceased estate, and while I was waiting and had my glasses on I had a look around.
You can imagine my suprise when I spied a tray of 6 South Australian QSA's of various units. One did focus my attention and it was a 3 bar QSA including Wittebergen to Lt H.L.Kekwick -an engraved officers medal. Need I say its no longer in his shop.
H.L.Kekwick joined the 4th contingent as a Sergeant with the regimental number of 2 (nice touch). He was promoted to Sgt Major in South Africa and then commissioned-when the roll was drawn up he was a Lieutenant.
In the 40 years that I have been interested in South Australian QSA's this one is the only 2nd one I have owned and I have only ever sighted another 2 so I was pretty pleased with myself.
