DCM Medals are advertising a QSA and renamed Natal 1906 pair to R D F Nicolls.
His medal is named with his initials and surname as is usual for civilians.
He served in the Army Stationery Department (Wo100/299p158)
The website entry states:
Queen’s South Africa, no clasp – simply named to R. D. F. Nicholls.
He is just about on a roll of his own – showing service with Army Stationery Department at Pietermartizburg.
A very rare designation/unit.
Medal about GVF.
Initial research shows that Nicholls served in the Civil Service and Post Office before the Boer War.
In 1903, he is recorded as travelling to Durban.
WITH : a renamed Natal 1906 with dated clasp, named to him in running script as Qtrmaster and Lieut. in the Natal Field Artillery. This is correct on the roll.
