I was speaking to someone at the National Archives yesterday who had seen a QSA that had seemingly been officially impressed after the naming with the words 'Presented by the King'. The spacing of the lettering suggested the addition was made at the time of naming, not a later addition.

I do not recall seeing a medal so named. Has anyone else?

Good Morning David......

Have not seen one name "Presented by the King" but I have seen a couple of QSA's and a number of earlier medals that are marked "Presented by the Master of the Mint"..... From what I understand is that a number of sets of medals were sent to various museums with this marking..... The ones that I saw were originally from RAUSI......

Central Africa is well documented. There is an OMRS article on it. I have never seen or heard of another. I did have a William LS&GC medal to the man whom Wellington famously said as he shook his hand at Queen Victoria 's coronation " I have you within my grasp at last" - Marshal Soult - but that is a different story.

Just thinking - one of these Central Africa Medals changed hands in a private deal about 3 months ago. May be there is some confusion as to which medal it was. My bet is on the Central Africa Medal rather than the Queen's South Africa.
For information OMRS Journal. Presented by the King 30 (3) 230-2; 32 (3) 238;38 (2)106-7
