TOPIC:

I have been fortunate to acquire double issue QSA's to a chap who was in the Defence of Mafeking.

The medals are as follows:

- QSA with clasps Orange Free State, Defence of Mafeking and Transvaal to 1833 Pte. N.J. Van der Meulen, Cape PD1 and
- QSA (no clasp) to Tpr. N.J. Van der Meulen, Bedford D.M.T.

A pleasant addition to this grouping was a silver fob watch engraved "N.J. Mafeking Siege, 1899 - 1900" - this watch still works.

Any info on the chap would be highly appreciated.

Nothing extra about that chap in Colin Walker's Mafeking Siege Register. Just the verification of the clasps. That register does not mention the DMT association. However, the Palmer roll shows "Private N.J. Van Der Meulen , Cape Police" as PoW, Hoopstad, 23/10/00 and subsequently "rejoined".
