I have just purchased this medal from Aust E.Bay -it appears that it may be a sleeper out of a deceased estate i Sydney NSW never been on the market. However in its favour all four clasps Transvaal, Wepener, Cape Colony and Wittebergen all check out on the roll- phew-I must admit I knew this before I bid on it.

Do any attestation papers exist for this unit exist-I noticed on a Canadian dealers site another 4 clasp to the same unit appears to have an extract from some book attached to it-any ideas.

I am also having heaps of trouble trying to find anything out about him-it would appear that some members of this family name emigrated to New Zealand in the 1850's and then to Australia.

Any help would be appreciated

The nominal roll suggests he was discharged on the 8th of October 1900, certainly from memory, their were some papers extant in WO126/74, but, these would, I am sure, not only be incomplete, but, would be actual SAMIF wartime examples only, during the war it's members became part of the famous Colonial Division, however, the regiment was already in existence prior to that and part of the Cape Colonies volunteer force.

George,

His forename is Harold.

The nominal roll suggests his surname is Bourbet. Is that incorrect? angloboerwar.com/unit-information/south-...les?showall=&start=1

The book may be the history of the Kaffrarian Rifles 1876-1986 by Francis Coleman?

There are some enrolment forms for the KR in WO126/74.

Regards
David

Hello David,
I'm pleased to see my memory had not let me down, but, those extant papers would be for members who had joined as SAMIF, with any subsequent claims, actually during the war itself, settled at the expense of the War Office, would they not?
Regards Frank

I'm feeling I need to go to the NA to have a look.

I have been through the Brabant's Horse attestations for Wepener and am part way through Driscoll's Scouts. I have yet to open up 126/74.
