QSA no Clasps awarded to 5902 Corporal A Macklin Wiltshire Regiment 1914 Star and Bar Trio awarded to 5064 Pte A Macklin Coldstream Guards. Alfred Macklin was killed in action during the period of the Christmas Truce 1914 on 25 December 1914. It may well be that no truce was declare where he was fighting.

Corporal Macklin was born in Enford, Wiltshire. Having served with the Wiltshire Regiment in the Boer War, he returned to reside in Pewesey, Wiltshire, when he enlisted at Marlborough into the Coldstream Guards.

There is a report on the Great War Forum that he and another soldier was buried in Givenchy next to a Brewery in an area of ground which is to this day undisturbed . He is in the Le Touret memorial presumably as having no known grave. Theres been no follow up re finding his grave or where the info about the burial came from.

I echo David's comments.
I wonder why there are no clasps on a Wiltshire Regiment QSA?

Regards

Afternoon Brett,
Macklin was in the Militia rather than their 2nd Battalion, there were some interesting combinations to individuals in this latter as well as the usual ones.
Regards Frank
