I don't know what is about the Imperial Light Infantry but I have seemingly developed a fixation with medals to this unit having just acquired my third one to them. If I didn't know better I would say that I am being stalked by them!

This one is to 777 Pte J.H. Taylor - James Homer Taylor was born in Scotland to America parents in about 1865 and would have been "in on the action" at Spioenkop having been an early enlister on 17 November 1899.

He has the standard I.L.I. clasps to his medal.

Regards

Rory

I think you are being stalked by all the QSA's on the market.

If only they would all stand to attention outside my door I would be a happy but very broke man :)

I know your current focus is on the BMR Brett but I need to find a Boer War Regiment that really tickles my fancy and go hammer and tongs at it. My predilection thus far has been South African Constabulary but I think a change in theme is due. I have tended towards the Natal campaign focusing on TH/ROL/DOL variations so maybe I should devote my energies to that.

I think that ILI medals have started to become far more collectable in recent years, they have certainly become rather scarcer on the market than they used to be, but, in all honesty, given the way these particular medals had been earned, perhaps I should not be at all surprised really, the sad events on that wretched Kop were a bloody and needless waste.

The focus of my collecting has been mainly regimental, and it has changed when I find that medals are hard to come by, and/or are too expensive. The recent change of interest to the Border Mounted Rifles was prompted by the scarcity of Natal doctors' and nurses' medals, and the discovery of the link between the BMR and my unfortunate maternal grandmother.

Brett, I don't think it can be suggested that medals to the Border MR are easy to obtain either, I have always considered them to be very scarce, they only very seldom turn up here and I share your interest, a great regiment.
