Through the good offices of a friend I was able to acquire a QSA/KSA pair to one of the units who saw plenty of action in the Defence of Ladysmith.

Sergeant Herbert Lawrence was awarded the clasps Defence of Ladysmith along with that to the Transvaal. His KSA has the normal two date bars.

I look forward to researching this pair!

Regards

Rory

Interesting that WO97 also suggests the Laing's Nek clasp, although, WO100/196 confirms just the two clasps as issued.

I also found that odd Frank but it would seem that he didn't qualify for Laing's Nek.

He was also a member of the 2nd Battalion which, as you know were cooped up in Ladysmith and played a prominent roll in the Wagon Hill episode of 6 January 1900.

You do encounter this sort of thing really quite often, it is interesting when the regiment/corps of a particular recipient was actually entitled to a given clasp, but, it is certainly very odd when a particular regiment was very clearly not so entitled, Wepener was a favourite, notwithstanding, the initial confusion as to who would receive it.
Nice pair of medals!
