My great grandfather William Henry WALLER left England for the S.A. between November 1881 and September 1882 when he is King Williams Town.

His daughters baptism shows his occupation as the Cape Infantry. In 1884 he is in Kokstad where his son is baptised, unfortunately no occupation shown.

I have found various references to William or W.H. Waller on the website, but I am not sure where to proceed from here?

What doe QSA, KSA and CGHGSM stand for?

Is the Cape Infantry the same as the Cape Town Highlanders?

By 1889 Williams wife and children are back in England, and I have no idea what happened to William. I have followed up any references in the NAIRRS Death Notices without success.

His wife remarried calling herself a widow. However, I have a copy of a letter written by her in 1911 concerning claiming an inheritance of a William Waller, so presumably she thought him still alive then. Which would also mean she committed bigamy!

I have only recently found the reference to him being in the Cape Infantry and was hoping it might help me find what happened to him. He was a soldier and a blacksmith in England, and I had always thought he probably worked on building the railways in S.A.

I’d appreciate any help you can give.

Thank you - more than obvious when I thought about it!

So having found that, is there anywhere I can get additional information about the man himself to help me determine if he's mine?

Also, any idea on my question as to whether the Cape Infantry is the same as the Cape Town Highlanders?

Excuse my questions - this is a whole new field of research for me.

Thank you, Linda

Adrian - re the Death Notice.

Many thanks, but he is not mine. I actually had contact from one of his descendants, but sadly we did not connect.

Good Morning Linda

No CI and CRH are completely different units, though some CI men did serve in CTH.....
