Hi, I have a South Africa medal, 1901 1902 that is inscripted on the edge "1530 Pte. J. Wright Imp Lt. Horse". I don't know or remember how I have it in my posession, but I am interested in finding out more about J. Wright and possibly return this medal to the family. I don't think he is a relative, but I don't know my great-grandparents family names.

I'd appreciate any suggestions you may have.
thanks, Lorraine

Hi Lorraine

His names were Joseph James Wright and he served with the 2nd battalion.

I have sent you a PM (message) - look in the right hand corner of your screen and, once read, you can reply to me.

Regards

Rory

A very nice gesture too, but, if I were you, I'd make quite sure he was not some long lost family member, to start with, have a look at WO126/55-65 at Kew, if his paper has survived, it should give you some idea of where he came from and his next of kin.

The medal is worth something too, so unless you want to, you don't have to give it away and you don't have to accept low ball offers from people. Probably do well on auction. Good luck.
