Hi, If a trooper served in South Africa until the 14th of January 1902, when he was dsiginated unfit for duty, would he be entitled to the 1902 clasp to the Queens South Africa medal?

I'm trying to trace Charles William Hudson. The only person that keeps coming up is a trooper in the 64th Sqn 18th Battalion Imperial Yeomanry, but he only has 4 clasps and not 5. Would it be possible to be awarded the 1902 afterwards?

Thanks for any info.

Do you mean Trooper 30380 67th coy 18th bn IY?

He earned CC,OFS,SA01. His papers on FindmyPast so show he was sent home in December 1901, he was discharged from the IY at Shorncliffe, Kent in 1902. Therefore he was not entitled to the SA02 clasp.

Thanks fro the research. This guy is a real mystery. He has the 1902 with 5 clasps yet I can't find anyone that has 5 clasps and his name. Charls William Hudson. Apparantly he served in WW1, as well, yet I can't find him there either...

He wouldn't be the first or last soldier to embellish his medals.

Correct me if I am wrong but I think the most commonly added bars would be the SA01 and SA02.......

Here is your picture......

You are correct Mike, but without the medal to hand we don't know the order of the clasps - he could have added any two on top of his entitlement, or he received a 5 clasp medal by mistake.
