I would have imagined the recipient received all clasps as one block originally so I am curious why there are 4 brooches for 5 clasps.

There are no pictures of the rim of the QSA so one explanation could be that the medal is renamed and the clasps collected from various sources?

Women are sometimes at variance with normality, the wearer may have liked to "space" the clasps on her attire, still, not something that I'd want to actually buy in the first place, but, a collector of particular QSA's might well want it.

I hadn't thought about that possibility. I can't imagine it has been worn for years so it good that it has been kept together.
