I have had the single QSA in my collection for a while now but only recently got round to looking into some research.
There is not too much of interest about this man except he has awarded himself an extra "Natal" clasp to his QSA

James White a Liverpudlian attested for the 4th Hussars at Edinburgh in 1886 although his medal and WO100/117 show 13th Hussars
James had previously belonged to the 3rd Liverpool Regt. he was 19years old when he attested for short service.
Home service made up 12 years of his Army life, his only service abroad was in South Africa.
He arrived in South Africa on 28th Feb 1901 and left on the 24th July 1902 this earned his the QSA with clasps Orange Free State, Transvaal and the two date clasps.
Added to his medal is the Natal clasp.
James was discharged on 24 August 1902 having served for 16 years and 202 days his intended place of residence was to be Rochdale in Lancashire.
His character is shown as good, as stated nothing special but a good honest long serving soldier who did his duty for Queen and Country.

Thank you for looking
Paul :)

I keep thinking about the unofficial Natal clasp, if he had added it would it not be loose as a top clasp

Paul
I suppose it would not be beyond the skills of a good silversmith undo the rivets for the OFS clasp, rivet the unofficial NATAL clasp in it's "correct" position and re-assemble the stack of clasps. I agree that I would have expected to see it loose and on the top.
That is a nice badge you illustrated with White's QSA; I have often thought of doing similarly if I could get the originals!

IL.

Ian,

Yes, a good theory I suppose.
Some QVC badges are harder to find than others which makes them more expensive.
I was lucky enough to be a badge collector before the medal obsession took over

Regards
Paul :)

Hello Paul,
What do the rivets look like, I take it there are two original sets of official ones?
Regards Frank
