I have acquired a nice little grouping courtesy of a swap with a fellow collector and would appreciate any information on the man and his regiment (of which there seems very little written)

The group is to John Charles Howard and comprises:

- Queens South Africa Medal with single clasp Relief of Ladysmith to 230 Pte. J.C Howard, Natal R.R.
- Natal Rebellion Medal with 1906 clasp to Col. Sgt. J.C. Howard, Natal Royal Regt.
- Colonial Auxiliary Forces Long Service Medal to No. 230 Col. Ser. J.C. Howard, Natal R. Regt.

Regards

Herewith a picture of the group - it also has the added attraction of being a single clasp to the QSA and to three different monarchs!

Hi Rory

Howard's CAFLS Medal was one of the earlier issues. I enclose the relevant page from the Issue Register.

Unfortunately it was only from late November 1917 that the specific file reference as well as date of dispatch of medal was entered in the relevant columns.
Dewald Nel [email protected] should be able to copy you Howard's file

Thanks Henk

Dewald sent through the file last evening. The CAFLSM was applied for in December 1912 and issued the following year.

Howard had a long career in the military starting out in 1887 with the Natal Royal Rifles.

Not much else on the chap but still digging!

Regards

Rory
