well, maybe...the group has been stripped of an Order of the Iron Crown (Austria) since it was sold in April 2014 in the UK.

Hi Meurig......

Went back and looked at the original listing and there was no mention of the Austrian piece......

What did it sell for in 2014 ?????

Hello Mike

Details here:

www.auction-net.co.uk/viewAuction.php?id=1860&offset=450
www.lawrences.co.uk/news.php?m=5&y=2014

£3580 (not clear if this is hammer or inclusive) - but this included other medals to Lt JA Bogle-Smith and a silver plated figure of a soldier.

Hi Meriug......

Here was the auction: www.benemerenti.de/php/us_startseite.php

They were broken up into 3 lots - 453, 454 and 455 - www.benemerenti.de/php/us_vorschau.php?lnr=4&wnr=ABB

If you look at Lot 457 there were a number of other items with that one that have been split into different lots......

Morning Mike

I picked up the Bene Merenti auction from www.the-saleroom.com/en-gb - well worth a weekly browse.

The piece that is missing is the Iron Crown - the one item that sets Bogle-Smith's group apart.

Someone has either lost a valuable order, decided he wasn't entitled (I can't get the London Gazette to show me the award, it would have been gazetted I am assuming), or stripped the order out and resold the remaining medals.

The award is confirmed in the regimental history, which is referred to here: lweidemannhv.powweb.com/images/MAGYAR%20...%20WINTER%202011.pdf .
