Mike,
I should add that the medal to Bernard Egan is superb, a shoemaker from Galway, the 3rd, 4th and 5th Battalions Leinster Regiment were formed from the Kings, Queens and Meath County Militias respectively and just like Paul's Irish Militiaman, Barry, he was unable to write!
Bloody superb medal Mike!
Kind regards Frank

Incidentally, if anyone is wondering why I asked the question about the 2nd Leinster's, I had my very own "milestone moment" recently when I managed, at long last, to actually find one, this particular battalion had always eluded me, it had an interesting time from it's arrival in 1902 and saw the final and most brutal months of the war out on the veldt and then remained in South Africa to back up the new administration until 1904.

Hello Paul,
Yes, I can certainly do that, I was not hijacking Mike's thread, but, I was intrigued by his first post when he mentioned every regular army infantry unit, which is why I asked the question, some battalions are very hard to find, although, in practice, they should be all much the same.
The point I made regarding your man Barry and Mikes fellow, Egan, highlights the way things were for a great many in Ireland all those years ago, thank heavens, things have improved down the intervening years.
This certainly in no way detracts, those QSA's are superb and actually very scarce indeed.
Regards Frank

Frank,

Regarding my RMF QSA at the same fair the dealer had another RMF QSA on his table but he had just sold it before I bought Barry's
I regret not visiting his table earlier because I would have snapped up both, still at least I got one ;)

Paul :)
