At yesterday's Kaplan Auction I acquired what I thought of as a "sleeper" - John Henry Tangye served as an official Photographer with the British Forces in the Boer War, married a Cape girl and settled in the country.

The Archives in Cape Town are littered with photos, not only of himself in uniform which is a boon, but also some of a scenic nature he took whilst in the Cape.

Not everyone's cup of Earl Gray I know but it pushed all my buttons :cheer:

The pair is comprised of:

- QSA with Cape Colony clasp
- KSA with the SA 1901 & 1902 clasps

This one's for Frank's benefit as I know he likes the engraved naming on these QSA's ;)

Tangye passed away on 2 September 1911 and one can only imagine (which is part of the fun really) where these medals have been in the intervening years.

Regards

Rory

Hello Rory,
It is just something that I really like to see, so many QSA's were impressed and whilst they are okay, I do think that engraved examples are far nicer and much more pleasing to the eye.
Again, a lovely QSA you have there, the Royal Engineers were and remain the men who think and do on the battlefield, I can see why Lord Kitchener himself was so keen to join them, he certainly laid the foundations (no pun intended!) for his future by doing so.
Regards Frank
