Greetings all - I hope someone can assist. I have a Anglo Boere Oorlog Medal to Burger G.J.H. Grobler. Could anyone tell me which Commando he served in? All replies will be greatly appreciated. Kind regards-Alf

Grobler was and I dare say remains a common name, but, a medal with those particular initials may well be unique, have a look at the website of the Anglo Boer War Museum in Bloemfontein, they have an on line data base which can be searched with ease.

Okay, if he is not on the published roll, you should take this matter further, to Pretoria in fact, the medal has three initials, rather than two, I would have said the letter was a G, rather than a C, so I should want a look at the Vorm B application, which should be available.
The medal appears to me to be a typical example with the Great War type impressed naming which were issued from inception, circa 1921, up to, from memory, October 1937.
I hope you are able to identify this man, these medals have now become quite scarce and there value has risen sharply in recent years, of course, when compared with the QSA, it can be suggested, that they are actually rare rather than just scarce.
Perhaps, if Henk Loots reads your thread, he might give you his thoughts on your medal.
