Forum members,

While assessing my collecting goals for 2015 I realised a big gap in my medal collection was examples of Irish Regiments.
The only example in my collection is www.angloboerwar.com/forum/5-medals-and-...-irish-regiment#6379
Browsing through the medal dealers websites they do seem to be less abundant.
My obvious thought is that the Irish Regiments were not as numerous as others, would this make the cost, which seem to be a premium relevant.
Are the Irish Regiments more sought after which makes them scarcer on the market or is it because I have not searched for them before.
Your thoughts and comments welcome.

Cheers
Paul :)

I think that the lure of collecting QSAs to Irish Regiments is fuelled by people of Irish descent being proud of their heritage. And rightly so. I only have a few such (Inniskillings/ RIFus spring to mind) and have been looking for something to the "Dubs" for quite a while.
It is like the lure Aust. QSA/KSA/trio have here. Some find them easier to relate to; although personally I don't really mind.
Regards
IL.

Hello Ian,

Thanks for your comments and you make a good point about heritage.
A "Dubs" is also on my list, been tempted by a few Talana's but they always seem overpriced, which I think is my point.

Cheers
Paul :)

Hello Paul,
There has always been a little something extra for collectors with all the British Armies Irish regiments, I've never fully understood why this was, at the period in question here, the golden age, they were merely thousand man battalions like the others, moreover, there is, so often, these days, certainly "something extra" when it comes to paying for them too.
Having said that, I myself, am ultimately Irish too and in both the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries a few of my own ancestors served in The Devils Own, The Faugh a Ballagh Boys and rather strangely, given where we were from, even one in The Dirty Shirts.
Some people would say they were just wretched mercenaries, doubtless, others might use the word traitor, for me, well, I think if you were born in the gutter then it is quite right and proper to not want to stay there, so I would use the word magnificent, up to a point at least! :)
Kind regards Frank
