Welcome to this forum.

Thank you for showing a very interesting medal. The linking of two of Britain's greatest regiments through one man and one medal must be uncommon. It is a pity that McConnell came to a sad end during the Siege of Ladysmith.

Regards
Brett

Thanks Brett. I was hunting through web pages to try and find a detailed plan of Ladysmith Cemetery in the hope that Pte McConnells grave is marked. No luck so far though. Any ideas where I could locate the plan

McConnell is listed in Steve Watt's book, In Memoriam, as having died in Ladysmith on 15 April 1900. He was buried in the Ladysmith Town Cemetery. Under remarks it states: KRR2 (ATD) AS A MULE DRIVER.
Also the abbreviation 1A signifies that his name is recorded on the main monument at the site, and in All Saint's Church, Ladysmith. The grave itself may no longer exist.
