Next month, DNW are auctioning off an officially renamed CCC Medal. It is a shame they do not show the naming.

It is described as: Cape Copper Company Medal for the Defence of Ookiep, bronze issue (W. Bowers) officially re-impressed, good very fine £300-400

The rim looks quite irregular in the image but quite consistent where the name would be.

What makes the renaming "official"?

We don't know a lot about this medal and given the Cape Copper Company made them, did they rename? We don't know anything about their process.

Or I don't anyway.

I agree Ryan - can't imagine an official rename. As I understand it these medals were issued with the pay packets.

According to the QSA roll this man was a non-white engaged at O'Okiep.

Would need to see the naming.
