Hello Norman,
That medal is certainly renamed and not officially either, there is no reason to ever buy a medal like that, on it's own as a single medal, if, on the other hand, it was part of a group and actually worn by the recipient, for what ever the reason, then it would be a different matter altogether.
Officially renamed medals are okay as far as I am concerned if you are looking for an individual recipient, whose medal was issued like that, or to a unit whose medals were issued like that and where no better alternative exists, otherwise I would avoid them too.
Really though, with the QSA, they are quite common medals, so, in all honesty, it is better just to buy the very best you can, without the any naming issues.
When you get into the Great War and just beyond, in particular, you start to see all the official corrections as things got sloppy at the mint and their contractors, it really was a case of "waste not, want not" in the immediate aftermath, but, that was understandable given the financial climate back in those days.
Again, kind regards Frank

Hello Frank,

Many thanks again for all this much appreciated assistance. I originally thought that the Online QSA Medal Roles available may not have been fully comprehensive and therefore someone on this Forum may have had an up to date Roll showing a 2458 SERGT Wm. CHISHOLM in the 107th IY. I am now very glad that I had become suspicious of this medal and the naming on it when I found that the name showing did not appear on these Rolls.

I know exactly what you mean about the sloppiness that occurred on naming medals after WW1. I have two individual MIC's for a 53591 Pte George Chisholm of the RAMC showing that the Victory and BWM was named to a Pte G. CHISHOLM but the 1915 Star was named to a Pte G. CHRISHOLM!!

Many thanks again for all your help

Best wishes

Norman

Hello Norman,
I don't have any real issue with a misspelt name, you still have the mans number in the case of the rank and file too, but, with official corrections, I only buy them if I want a particular recipient for my regimental collection, otherwise I tend to avoid them and wait for a better example to come along, but, I think it is often just personal choice really, at the end of the day, your money, your collection.
Regards Frank
