I have a QSM to a W Jefferson of the 1st Battalion Durham LI. I wonder if there is anything anybody can tell me about my man or the actions of his unit. I think he must have been involved at the end of the War as he only has a 1902 clasp. A nice medal though - also has Cape Colony, OFS and Transvaal. My first post on this site ! regards, Chris

Hi Chris. Welcome to the forum.

7282 W Jefferson was issued with his medal on 16 Nov 1903. The entry for his 4 clasp medal is on WO100/201p134.

There is some information on the 1st DLI here: angloboerwar.com/unit-information/imperi...urham-light-infantry

No papers seem to have survived for him sadly.

Best wishes
David

David, thank you for your reply. As a novice to Boer war research can you tell me please what determines whether records are available or not ? For example I have a medal for a Yorkshire LI man whose records are available. regards, Chris
