Hi, Can someone please explain to me why some QSA's have the '01 &/or '02 clasps as opposed to having a KSA with the 2 clasps?

Many thanks, Ian

Good Morning Ian.....

This is one of the most commonly asked questions......

Why does Grand Dad have a 1901 and 1902 bar on his QSA and not a KSA.....

Well Grand Dad maybe did not have the required 18 months service which includes 1902....

To be able to obtain the KSA the person was actually serving in South Africa on or after January 1st, 1902 and that on that date they had completed 18 months' war service; or subsequently completed such service before June 1st, 1902.

So the QSA would have the '01 & '02 clasp if the person had not served the full 18 months?

Ian,

The recipient only had to serve a few days into 1902 to receive the clasps so the maximum of 18 months of service could have ended on 1 Jan 1902 or 31 May 1902.
