Just looking around to see how common 'cavalry-style' mounting of clasps was. Personally I agree it does look better with thin bars! Found a Spinks action (1200324) for a trio (including DSO) to Lieutenant-Colonel E.H. Cox, Royal Fusiliers.
Thing I noticed there was that he had five 'geographic' clasps on his QSA but hadn't worn the 'date' clasps on it. The KSA did have those.
Was this common? Might account for why 'Tim' had only six clasps when eight was the usual figure for 2 Middlesex. From his other undated 'plain' photo we know he was/became a Sergeant so out of the shortlist...
No. 656 Quartermaster and Hon. Lieut. Frank Allam, age 47 (CC/OFS/T/TH/RL/LN/1901/1902)
No. 5371 Sergeant Master Tailor Robert Hewitt, age 35 (T/N/1901/1902)
No. 3804 Colour Sergeant Thomas Woolmore, age 37 (CC/OFS/T/TH/RL/LN/1901/1902)
No. 5781 Sergeant Harry Trezona, age 32 (CC/OFS/T/TH/RL/LN/1901/1902)
No. 5211 Private George Ashford, age 43 (CC/TH/RL/1901/1902)
No. 3008 Private Walter Augustus Ellis, age 38 (CC/OFS/T/TH/RL/LN/1901/1902)
...then Harry Trezona is the only 'plain' Sergeant.
