LOL,it would be nice if it was in the Med, moreover, I dare say a certain French artilleryman would have been wildly ecstatic had it been! :woohoo:

The 4th (Militia) Battalion, The Gloucestershire Regiment volunteered for foreign service during the Boer War and were embodied from 11 January 1900 to 27 July 1901.

The 3rd (Militia) Battalion furnished 124 N.C.O.'s and men, all volunteers, to the 4th Battalion.

They embarked under Colonel the Earl Bathurst for St. Helena on 2 April 1900. They furnished the Guards over the Boer prisoners of war at Deadwood Camp, two Companies under the command of Captain the Hon. A. B. Bathurst being at Broad Bottom Camp.

They also furnished the guard of N.C.O.'s at Kent Cottage over General Cronje and his family.

I wonder what Hester Cronje made of Kent Cottage, better than being shelled at Paardeberg I suppose.

I append a photo or two and will post the story later.
