Mike,
This is a Price Of Wales Light Horse or "South African Welsh" as they were known when raised!
Normally worn with a little brass IY type pow's plumes above on the slouch hat, usually British made.

PS, Officers of this unit, in keeping with others like the Natal Volunteer Composite Regt and Robert's Horse, also wore their own buttons, A welsh dragon with the plumes above and a scroll beneath "Prince of Wales Light Horse" again made in Great Britain.
