I am trying to find out more about my great grandfather William Read. I only have this photo (see link) and think that he served sometime during 1880 and 1890. Can anyone help identify his uniform/regiment etc?

I would say rather too early for 1890, his name in a rather common one, can you provide any more details?

Could be up to 1900 (when he died) in England? Other than that all I know he was born in 1851 in London.

Do you know what he did before/after this period?

He is described as a clerk or commercial clerk in the census records. He may have been connected to the Post Office but I'm not sure.
