TOPIC:

Due to a S.... Up with the dates, I will be missing the OMRS convention this year (possibly my last one) but my wife and I have a cruise that will be leaving from Southampton on September 14th...... We will be flying in sooner so will be going from Heathrow direct to the port and have about 5 days to kill..... My question is there anything militaria in the area, i.e. museums, shops etc.

Hi Mike,

As far as I know there’s a couple of military surplus stores but not a militaria store as such.

There’s a few museums including The Titanic Story. There are lots of shops.

A short train journey away East is Portsmouth where there’s the National Museum of the Royal Navy, HMS Victory, HMS Warrior, Mary Rose, D-Day museum and Submarine Museum across the harbour in Gosport.

A short train journey away basically to the North is Winchester where there are several military museums (Infantry and Cavalry etc). Winchester Cathedral houses The Round Table.

A similar distance away is Salisbury where you’ll find the Rifles Berkshire and Wiltshire Museum and of course Salisbury Cathedral.

I was thinking of going to Portsmouth and the Naval Museum as it was 1971 since I was last there and I am sure some things have changed......
