Hello
With the digitisation of newspapers this resource has become very easy to use and a real treasure trove.
As you search newspapers I am sure you have seen the same story appear in any number of newspapers across the British Isles and also in Australia & NZ. With telegraph communication and syndication each editor could easily fill his paper with the latest war news.
I use the papers to expand the casualty information I database. Until today I thought all reprints of "telegrams from the War Office" concerning casualties would be the same - but alas no!
Take 17 July 1900, a telegram of soldiers released at Pretoria June 6 is published in a number of papers. I am looking for a man named Liefeldt - he appears in the list published by the London Daily News but not in The Times.
The Times has not printed six or so names of colonials, Liefeldt does not appear in searches of The Times around this period. Why The Times left these names is out is a matter of conjecture, what is certain is that this is very annoying for researchers.
Regards
Meurig
