I have previously stated on this forum that I was going to be writing an extended essay on the Boer war and I was wondering what would be the best battle to look at for developments in British military tactics and technology during the second boer war

For myself, I would look at the series of actions leading up to the Relief of Ladysmith; comparing say Colenso with the events of 14-27 Feb 1900 on the Tugela. And you might have to read widely and attempt to balance one account against another and avoid the 20/20 hindsight manner of writing. Another theme might be comparing the techniques used at Talana and Elandslaagte. Our Host, Mr. Biggins, has written a definitive book on each of these two early battles.
