I have also been able to find his MIC on Ancestry relating to WW1 but have not been able to access his name on a medal roll during the Anglo-Boer War. Can anyone kindly tell me if it is possible to find this, or if it even exists?

Thank you in anticipation.

Hello Annie

The original medal rolls are on Ancestry Ancestry .

Frank has provided the roll number and page reference.

You will need to search Ancestry by name, service number, unit and campaign.

Hello Annie,

As Meurig says the rolls are available on Ancestry.
If you are having trouble accessing them PM your email address and I will send them to you.

Paul :)

Thank you for taking the time to help Frank, Meurig and Paul. I have tried searching Ancestry in all Military Conflicts, Soldier Veteran and Prisoner Rolls and lists, Awards and Decorations, UK Military Campaigns Medal and Award Rolls 1793-1949 using the name, service number and reference number. Alas the only information coming up is in connection with his service in WW1 and thousands of William Smiths. I am not the best getting around the Ancestry site though and after an hour's search is frustrating . As you have been so helpful, I hesitate to take Paul up on his kind offer, especially as I have subscribed to Ancestry so will give it another go later.
Many thanks
Annie

Hi Annie,

The rolls are definitely there on Ancestry, I looked and saved them this morning.
Let me know if you are struggling.

Paul :)

Thank you Paul, as you have already gone to the trouble of saving these I gratefully accept your kind offer. My problems now are getting to grips with the technology on this site, firstly by sending a personal message (which I have not done to date on the site but will look to see how this is done), and secondly how to give a donation in appreciation of the help that has been given to me, but I will search further regarding this on the site. One more question I would like to ask is would there further information anywhere about this man having been taken prisoner?
Regards
Annie
