Good Evening Everyone...….

This jiffy bag arrived today with a QSA to the following, the first that I have seen and therefore the first in my collection.....

7926 CORL. FAR. & CAR. STH. G. KNOTT, A.S.C. - Tugela Heights, Orange Free State, Relief of Ladysmith, Transvaal, Laing's Nek

Of course it is Corporal Farrier and Collar Smith (?)….. Does anyone have any other idea or can they confirm my guess.....

I have not been able to find anything on him in Find My Past...…

That is a really good and rare medal, certainly that is the first example that I have seen for quite a few years now, Ian is right, there were no collar smiths in Ally Sloper's Cavalry, only Collar/Harness Makers, which were named as such.
George Knott, a Smith, I would think, perhaps a general one, from Ramsgate had originally joined the Army in 1887 and had been recalled because of the war and served in South Africa from the 21st of October 1899, having actually qualified as a Carriage Smith on the 31st of October 1891.
WO100/213 confirms the medal and five clasps, although, the rank is given is only CPL FARR (Corporal Farrier) actual campaign service with number 16 Company ASC and shows him as time expired upon the 3rd of December 1900, so home, but, not in time for Christmas according to WO97 which states the 3rd of January 1901, so he appears to have missed out on new years eve too!
