Thanks to Mike, I have both read and very much enjoyed the article you wrote, some twenty years ago now.
In particular, I was very interested by the remark that Dr Mitchell made which you quoted at the bottom of page 51, concerning the ox waggons and the small differance between those of the Transvaal and the Free State, it also made me smile, I was going to say that was Frank Mitchell at his very best, but, no, I think, perhaps, this was just Frank Mitchell on a normal day!
I was also very interested to see your figures on the German Commando, no wonder I have been unable to add to my collection there, I had no idea there were so few issued, I have seen and read their nominal roll though, I was very suprised by the huge disparity in the numbers!

The original article appeared in the OMRS "Miscellany of Honours" No 9 in 1992. It contained additional material on the reactions of the English press in SA to the issue of the medal, as well as a full list of ABO medals awarded to women.
