I had a look in the medal roll, "Medal for the defence of O'Okiep 4th April to 4th May 1902" as compiled by Don Forsyth a number of years ago. Unfortunately, his name does not appear. Although it is perhaps worth digging further, as it is a nominal roll.

I think that he should have been awarded one (possibly silver) as the MID was awarded for the Defence.......

Good Evening Everyone......

The medal to H. R. Rich has finally arrived (due to postal strike) and I have been able to do my Jiffy Bag dance.......

I now have a question for all of the members.......

I was looking at the MID OAKLEAF on the medal ribbon, this is after the many years of collecting the first one that I have obtained......
What does every one think about that the Oakleaf (even though it was private purchase as I understand) could it have been the basis of the design for the WW1 leaf?????

I am quite sure that the "MiD emblem" was a quite recent idea of a local collector here in OZ. A few MiD QSAs have turned up locally bearing such a clasp on the ribbon.

IL is correct, these MID emblems were used (perhaps manufactured as well) by the late Bill Woolmore, a collector in Australia. A large part of his collection sold on Nobles around 2018/9.
As far as I know these were used by him to denote where an individual had been MID in the Boer war. It was not intended to be anything other than an unofficial emblem to denote that the person had been thus recognised.
