Approximately 81 Africa General Service Medals with clasp Somaliland 1902-04 awarded to HMS Redbreast.

Thomas Birrel Baird was born in Burghead, Elgin, Scotland on 30 June 1862 and joined the Royal Navy as an Acting Engine Room Artificer 4th Class on 3 April 1884. Advanced to Chief Engine Room Artificer 2nd Class in January 1896, when serving in HMS Bonaventure, he saw active service in HMS Redbreast during the Boer War, and was promoted Chief Engine Room Artificer 1st Class in January 1902. Awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal on 8 September 1894, he was shore pensioned in March 1906.

Following the outbreak of the Great War Baird was recalled to the service on 2 August 1914, but was invalided with arterio sclerosis on 8 December 1915, receiving a Silver War Badge.

William James Mockett was born in Falmouth, Cornwall, on 19 August 1882 and joined the Royal Navy as a Boy Second Class on 4 April 1898. He joined HMS Redbreast on 19 March 1900, and served in her until 22 August 1903, being promoted Able Seaman on 10 December 1900.

He saw further service in HMS Fox from 15 March 1911 to 23 February 1912, and was shore discharged, time expired, on 10 August 1912, joining the Royal Fleet Reserve the following day. Mockett was recalled for service on 2 August 1914, and served during the Great War in a variety of shore based establishments. He was awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal on 6 November 1917, and was finally shore pensioned on 7 October 1924.
