Having just purchased Hickman's book, Rhodesia for the Queen, I was gratified to note that whole swathes of the book are devoted to Harry Wallis whose medals reside in my collection and who is the subject of the article above.

I will get around to updating my story with the text but, for now, here are a few photos from the book which feature Wallis.

Morning Rory,
Last year I had cause to think about the Trafalger once again and remembered that somewhere on here you had posted about it's commanding officer, I just wondered if there is a list of it's crew in 1914, or, does the medal card for the 1914-15 Star actually mention that a particular man as serving on board the train?
Sincerely Frank.

Hello Frank

I'll have to get the file out to have a look and answer your question. Give me a couple of days.

Regards

Rory

Many thanks Rory, no rush whensoever you can, the reason I asked is that I bought a group last year that actually came with an example of the Trafalger cap badge, which can be clearly seen being worn with the SA Engineers grenade in your photograph here, but, I only have the recipients papers for his service in France with the SACSC RE, he is SPR in the SAEC upon the 1914-15 Star and papers do confirm his prior service in GWSA with the engineers, but, that is all.
Many thanks again, sincerely Frank

Hello Frank

Not much joy with the SA MIC I'm afraid - no mention of Trafalgar by name but 1st Armoured Train is on the card which I append below. If you want your man's version of the same iro his 1914/15 Star then it can be had from a researcher in Pretoria for not a lot of money. His name is Dewald Nel and he is contactable on [email protected]

All the best

Rory

Morning Rory,
Thanks ever so much for checking, that is just what I was hoping to see on the medal card, confirmation of service on the Trafalger, mind you, Captain Wallis was the CO, but, I do hope this will also be the case for his men too, very many thanks again.
Sincerely Frank.
