MC London Gazette 1 January 1915: Serjeant-Major H. J. Anderson, Royal Army Medical Corps.

MID London Gazettes 19 October 1914 (Field Marshal Sir John French’s Despatch of 8 October 1914) and 17 February 1915 (Field Marshal Sir John French’s Despatch of 20 November 1914) .

Henry John Anderson was born on 18 October 1879 and attested for the Royal Army Medical Corps as a Boy soldier in March 1895. Promoted Corporal, he served with the RAMC in South Africa throughout the Boer War, and was awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct medal in March 1913. He served during the Great War on the Western Front from 20 August 1914 (entitlement to the clasp to his 1914 Star confirmed), and within the space of five months on the Western Front had been twice Mentioned in Despatches and awarded the Military Cross. Advanced Warrant Officer Class I in January 1915, he was commissioned Lieutenant (Quartermaster) on 9 May 1915, and was promoted Captain on 9 May 1918. Appointed temporary Major on 20 February 1919, he finally relinquished his commission on 25 June 1919.

MSM London Gazette 19 October 1916.

George Henry Nunn was born in Paddington, London, and attested for the Royal Army Medical Corps on 30 July 1896, a shoemaker by trade, having previously served with the 3rd Volunteer Battalion, Suffolk Regiment. He served with them in South Africa during the Boer War from 19 November 1900 to 5 September 1902, ands was advanced Orderly First Class on 1 August 1901.

He transferred to the Highland Light Infantry on 23 April 1907, and was appointed Shoemaker, being advanced Sergeant Shoemaker on 1 May of that year. He served with the 2nd Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front from 14 August 1914, and served for the duration of the War, being awarded an ‘Immediate’ Meritorious Service Medal in October 1916, and his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal on 1 April 1917. He was discharged on 15 April 1919.

MID London Gazette 19 June 1915.

James Henry Thomas was born at Kensington in 1875 and attested from the Militia Medical Staff Corps on 21 September 1893. Appointed Lance Corporal on 6 October 1899 he had made Corporal by December and served in South Africa for much of the Anglo-Boer War, being further advanced Sergeant on 15 June 1900.

During his time in South Africa he was stationed with the 9th Bearer Company and with them was again promoted this time to Staff Sergeant on 1 March 1902. Returning to Britain he entered the war in France with No. 4 General Hospital on 25 August 1914. Promoted Quartermaster Sergeant on 12 October 1914 and further advanced Sergeant Major on 9 May 1915 Thomas was 'mentioned' for his good work over that period.

He continued to serve, at some stage being posted to Salonika until he was discharged to a Commission as Quartermaster & Lieutenant on 5 June 1917. Joining No. 40 Casualty Clearing Station, Thomas served there until the end of the war
