Thank you Frank - just to muddy the waters re: clasps - have a look at this old post of mine (I still have the medal of course) with clasps and to the same unit?.... Now I'm thinking he wasn't entitled to them although he clearly felt that he had earned them.

Well his clasps are clearly shown, but, crossed through, on page 155, nothing to suggest it was actually issued like that and nothing except the lines to suggest it was not, are the rivets correct?
If they are, then you have a most interesting medal.

I don't doubt its provenance having once been in the custody of Brett but I'll check the clasps and possible post a photo or two to canvas opinion.

Official rivets are exactly that and, even today, are really quite difficult to forge, it either is, or is not, as issued, however, if it was not issued like that, the recipient himself might well have felt that he had, indeed, actually earned them, which he clearly had anyway and worn the medal with clasps that way.
Again, another very scarce medal.
